Our Pioneering CEO and President
Cem has dedicated his life to finding innovative scientific solutions in marine environments. Following earlier studies in microbiology, he earned his Ph.D. in Oceanography from the University of Maine in 1996, with a focus on marine invertebrate taxonomy, biological oceanography, molecular biology, and biogeochemistry. His early professional endeavors in North Cyprus focused on marine debris pollution and marine turtle conservation. For over 22 years, Cem served in scientific, business development and executive roles as a partner in Kennebec River Biosciences, Inc., an international company in Maine, focused on research, diagnostic laboratory services, as well as vaccines and probiotics for finfish and shellfish.
His expertise is global, taking him from aquaculture operations in Maine to Mexico, Central America, the Caribbean, Southeast Asia, and the Middle East.
Through the establishment of Salmonics, LLC in 2020 and acquisition of SRH, Cem is pioneering the large-scale use of aquaculture salmonid blood waste to manufacture high-value biomedical products. His leadership at Salmonics marks a full-circle milestone in his career as he uses the potential of fish blood for biomedicine while also focusing on environmental sustainability and responsible aquaculture. The future of Salmonics is ever-growing as fish blood-based research continues to unlock medical breakthroughs.
