Working with carefully selected aquaculture companies that provide the raw material, Salmonics creates valuable resources from a byproduct, fish blood, that would otherwise join the waste stream. In doing so, we are also supporting sustainable, healthy seafood production—by providing a value-added return to companies farming salmonids using practices in line with high environmental, sustainability and animal welfare standards.

Blood is collected using humane practices from responsibly farmed Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar) and rainbow trout (Onchorhynchus mykiss). The raw material and blood fractions are processed under stringent conditions to ensure high purity and quality.

Salmon plasma proteins are naturally free of mammalian viruses and prions and perform as well or better than mammalian- or bovine-sourced versions. These superior qualities make Salmonics products ideal for use in a variety of research applications in regenerative medicine, pain studies, and more.

Proteins are sold lyophilized and can be re-hydrated as needed and used at or below room temperature. Bulk and special orders to meet unique requirements (unit size, excipients, etc.) are available.

Sea Block®

Sea Block® is a non-mammalian blocking buffer derived from responsibly farmed Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar). It presents an excellent alternative to traditionally used blocking buffers as a universal blocking solution that prevents non-specific binding. Sea Block® improves sensitivity and specificity of assays, offers low fluorescence to minimize background interference, and shows low cross-reactivity.

Salmon Fibrinogen

Fibrinogen is a blood protein derived from Atlantic Salmon (Salmo salar) responsibly farmed in the USA. A naturally occurring plasma glycoprotein, it assists in blood clotting during tissue and vascular injury and is also a primary component needed to synthesize fibrin hydrogels.

Salmon Thrombin

Thrombin is a blood protein derived from Atlantic Salmon (Salmo salar) responsibly farmed in the USA. A serine protease, it converts fibrinogen into fibrinand is a primary component needed to synthesize fibrin hydrogels.

Serum

Serum supplements cell culture media with a mix of growth and attachment factors, and other nutritional components. Customized preparations and volumes are available.

Plasma

In addition to similar nutrients as serum, plasma also contains a variety of proteins with diverse functions. Customized preparations are offered, including a variety of anticoagulants.
